Pakistani employees have always suffered from bad management practices (there are good examples as well but there is no fun discussing those). PIM was established in 1954 to “serve the growing and complex needs of organizational managers and to enhance their managerial skills through training, consultancy, and research.” In short, to fix bad management practices. More institutions have surfaced since. LUMS’ Rausing Executive Development Center is a well-known example. I think all these institutions have done a good job in providing management training.

But they all missed a spot.

Here is a quote from the post.

Today, at the most critical juncture that this country has seen in its turbulent history for decades, we have an opportunity – maybe our last – to change all of that. Today, we have the chance to salvage our country’s future, to save it from destruction, to save it from the very apathy that threatens to devour it whole.

Why are we protesting, people ask me? To usher in another corrupt politician? To open the doors for another dynastic arrangement that exploits whatever’s left of this tattered nation? What are we fighting for?

To them, I extend one simple answer; we are fighting for Pakistan.

Read the complete post from here.

“I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty or give me death.” – Patrick Henry, March 23, 1775.

This book is short, simple, and does a wonderful job reminding us that Islam is not only a religion but a complete way of life.

In Dr. Muzaffar Iqbal’s words, the book “is the story of one such believer who recognizes the depth of this erosion of the foundation of faith, attempts to re-orient himself, and comes to an understanding of Islam which is becoming increasingly rare in the contemporary world. It is not surprising that, for a man born into a Muslim family and raised in Pakistan, this journey toward a real understanding of Islam actually begins in America. ”

Dr. Waqas Ahmed, the author, is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases. He is currently a consultant interventional cardiologist at Shifa International Hospital and assistant professor of cardiology at Shifa College of Medicine.

Download the PDF version of the the book from here.

It’s not just the van drivers, all Pakistani drivers are crazy. Especially during the month of Ramzan.

I left early for work today, not expecting to experience adrenaline rush. It was only 6 AM. What could happen?

How wrong was I. The traffic was low but the doze of craziness wasn’t. Most drivers didn’t care for red lights. One NHA bus driver crossed at least 4 red lights and almost ran over a QingQi at Chandni Chowk. What that idiot didn’t realize is that we both crossed most of the Murree road and got to the Kachehri Chowk at the same time. I am sure he will continue to
do{ drive_crazy() } while ( $there_is_life );
. That’s the nature of our drivers, be them educated or un-.

No, they aren’t moving.

They are fully stopped right in front of the entry gate to Madrassah Faizul Islam on Murree road. And get this, they are waiting for pessengers. Yup, these van drivers decided to show their booty to Punjab Traffic Police and moved the bus stop to the middle of the road. All on their own.

Where the hell is Traffic Police? Well, I saw one santari yesterday picking his nose at the junction of Stadium road and Murree road. None today. They must be blocking traffic somewhere for Mushi, et al.

Begum Nawazish Ali, “a coquettish widow who interviews Pakistan’s glitterati and some of its top politicians”, is, in fact, Ali Saleem, Pakistan’s ground-breaking drag artist.

Begum Nawazish Ali is quite a charactor. “With fluttering eyelids and glossy lips, Begum Nawazish Ali … flirts with male guests using suggestive banter and sexual innuendo.” And as Salman Masood puts it for the International Herald Tribune, when she speaks, he’s breaking all of Islam’s taboos.
