Adding Fuel to Fire

Written by Nauman Faridi

The Shareef-Zardari government (hmm… that came out interesting, unintentionally) has dropped it’s first bombshell. They have conveniently asked us to “get ready for higher fuel prices”. Quickly afterwards, they raised the price to Rs. 65.81 per litre of petrol. It is expected to touch 80′s by June.

That’s strike I, for the new government.

For us outcast Pakistani citizens, it is strike LVXCII. But who the hell is counting anyway, right?

Some people wrote about it (here, here, and here). Some people cried (you have to wait in a line at a bus stop to see that). Most of the people, however, just discovered yet another point to discuss during lunch hour and waste the time. That is what we are good at, complaining and doing nothing.

I am ready to bet that no one, read my lips, n-o o-n-e will do anything beyond huffing and puffing. The price will soon touch triple figures and we won’t do jack about it. We are getting used to being raped and it seems to be that we have even started enjoying it.

And that gives me an opportunity to share with you some interesting images on the Internet about high fuel prices (here, here, here, here, and here).

Here is some fuel to fire. I was in Saudi Arabia last month and had an opportunity to take a snap of the fuel price there: Rs. 8 per litre (SR 0.478). Beat that!

Enjoy. “Those who don’t know how to fight worry, die young.”.

Not only the price in Pakistan, here in Canada the prices of gas has gone up too. And not only gas price but AAta, Daal, Chawal you name it every thing has gone up. 16 L Oil that used to be sold for @ 16 has now touched $30!! Flour is $10 – $25, Rice from $10 to $15, Bread is now sold for not less then @2. And gas… it is now $1.30/L. You think we can expect Pakistan to lower the prices. Wish, Wish and Wish
